The Trans Morocco Trail has been developed by Chris Scott and Ed Gill, two desert travelling aficionados from the UK. Chris then cooked up the High Atlas Traverse spin off.

Chris Scott

Since 1982, Chris Scott has travelled through, in and around North Africa and the Sahara using motorcycles, 4x4s, regular cars, trucks and camels, adding up to over 50 visits.

The creator of the world renowned Adventure Motorcycling Handbook, (now in it’s 8th edition) he has written books, presented talks, appeared on TV, organised and lead tours, shot films and offered advice and consultation to novelists, TV, world-leading brands, NGOs, nutters and scientists. His books, Sahara OverlandAdventure Motorcycling Handbook (‘AMH’), Overlanders’ Handbook and Morocco Overland have frequently been described as ‘bibles’ for adventurous overland travel.

Today, Chris is one of the UK’s foremost Moroccan adventure travel experts, leading motorbike tours around the country.

Ed Gill

A passionate solo adventure motorcyclist, from the humidity of the Peruvian Amazon to the minus 20 degrees of the Sino-Pakistan border, Ed has ridden motorbikes in 46 countries across 6 continents.

For Ed, travel and adventure are synonymous with storytelling, photography and writing, and he regularly writes about his adventures on his website Where Next Barney?

The longest of his trips was from London to Sydney in 2015 but has undertaken other more focussed trail riding expeditions in Georgia and Armenia, Europe, Morocco and South America. In late 2023, he spent three months exploring Algeria’s deep Saharan south off-road, unguided and unassisted, becoming one the first non-Algerians to successfully do so in over twenty years.

You can follow Ed’s adventures on Instagram and Facebook.
